Visit Wai’anapanapa State Park’s Black Sand Beach
Wai’anapanapa State Park is one of Maui’s most popular sites on the Road to Hana. To avoid crowds, get there early in the morning.
You can visit the park in the morning after staying in Hana to experience the magnificent light and an hour of walking along the stunning Pa’iloa black sand beach and coastal paths, passing by a sea cave and blowhole. Exploring this state park is one of the things that is there to do on Maui.
Pipiwai Trail
Isn’t it true that the trip is more important than the final destination? It’s about both on the Pipiwai Trail. On the Road to Hana, the isolated trail is roughly 12 kilometers past Hana town. Bamboo groves, a well-kept walkway, and two waterfalls are among the attractions.
It’s also a feasible hike for individuals of all ages, at slightly over four miles roundtrip. You can expect a clean track, nicely maintained bridges, boardwalks, and rock steps as part of the Kpahulu District of Haleakala National Park. Explore the Haleakalā National Park
Haleakala Crater, at an elevation of slightly over 10,000 feet, offers spectacular, sweeping vistas of Maui. Whether you’re renting a car, taking a morning van tour, or going on a backpacking trip along the famous Sliding Sands Trail, the visitor center is a terrific place to start.
Bring an additional layer in case the weather changes drastically at this elevation. The temperature at the peak will most likely be around 50 degrees Fahrenheit at sunrise in the middle of July. Exploring the Haleakala National Park is one of the things that is there to do on Maui.
Take a trip on the Road to Hana
The curvy Road to Hana, which skirts Maui’s northeastern shore surrounding Haleakala National Park, is one of the island’s most memorable experiences, making the difficulty of hiring a car worthwhile.
With 59 bridges to cross—46 of which have only one lane—the 52-mile route harkens back to Hawaii before shopping malls and tourists.
The journey can easily last a day, or two if you stay overnight. It’s also a feast for the eyes, with lots of sights to take in when you stop along the way. Whatever you do, stop by one of the numerous roadside stands selling fresh fruit, smoothies, hand-carved Koa wood keepsakes, and, most importantly, warm banana bread.
Visit the Ho’okipa Beach Park
This gorgeous beach, tucked on the north shore of the island across the Road To Hana, is miles away from the people. This is one of Hawaii’s top sites for windsurfing, thanks to its steady winds, huge waves, and sprawling reef system. Keep an eye out for honu (green sea turtles).
Many visitors overlook these enigmatic marine critters, which mix seamlessly with the beach’s numerous exposed reefs and rocks. They tend to emerge from the sea in the early evening to rest and, possibly, admire the lovely sunsets. After a day on the beach, stop by Mama’s Fish House for locally caught fish tacos and lobster tails.
